Syngonium, commonly known as the arrowhead plant, is a genus of flowering plants native to the tropical rainforests of Central and South America. Prized as a houseplant for its colorful, arrow-shaped foliage and ease of care, it can be grown as a bushier potted plant or a trailing vine. 

Characteristics

• Foliage: The plant's leaves are its main attraction, varying widely among cultivars. Juvenile leaves are typically arrow-shaped, but as the plant matures, the leaves can develop additional lobes. Leaf colors range from dark green to light green, and many varieties are variegated with cream, white, yellow, or pink markings.
• Growth habit: Young plants grow upright, but as they mature, they begin to climb or trail. You can keep the plant bushy by pruning its climbing stems or provide a moss pole to encourage it to climb.
• Air purification: Syngonium is noted for its ability to filter indoor air of common pollutants like formaldehyde and benzene, according to NASA's Clean Air Study.

Care tips

• Light: Place in bright, indirect light for best growth. Too much direct sun can scorch the leaves, while too little can cause leaves to lose variegation.
• Water: Water thoroughly when the top inch of soil feels dry. Allow the soil to dry out slightly between waterings, but do not let it become completely dry. Bottom-watering is a good method to prevent root rot.
• Humidity: Syngonium plants prefer high humidity, especially during dry conditions. Regularly misting the leaves or placing the pot on a pebble tray with water can help.
• Soil: Use a well-draining potting mix that is rich in organic matter.
