Fern described as "green ferns," and they are known for their lush, feathery foliage. Some of the most popular varieties are kept as indoor houseplants for their air-purifying qualities.

• Boston fern (Nephrolepis exaltata): With arching, sword-shaped green fronds, the Boston fern is one of the most common varieties and is known for its ability to remove toxins like formaldehyde from the air.

• Light: Most ferns prefer bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight will scorch their fronds, while too little light can cause wilting.
• Water: Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Ferns are sensitive to both underwatering and overwatering. Check that the top layer of soil is dry before watering again.
• Humidity: As tropical plants, ferns need high humidity. Increase the moisture in the air by misting the foliage, using a humidifier, or placing the pot on a tray of pebbles filled with water.
• Soil: Plant ferns in a well-draining, organic-rich potting mix. A peat-based mix with added perlite is ideal for potted varieties.
• Fertilizing: Feed your fern once a month during the growing season (spring and summer) with a half-strength liquid fertilizer. Stop fertilizing in the fall and winter.
• Pruning: Trim off any brown, damaged, or dead fronds with sharp shears to encourage healthy new growth.
