The Dracaena compacta, or compact dragon tree, is a popular, slow-growing houseplant known for its thick stems and clusters of short, glossy, dark-green leaves. A low-maintenance choice, it is also effective at removing common indoor air pollutants.

• Light: Provide bright, indirect sunlight. While the plant can tolerate low-light conditions, too much direct sun can scorch the leaves.
• Watering: Water thoroughly only after the top few inches of soil have become dry to the touch. Overwatering is a common issue and can lead to root rot. Reduce the watering frequency in the winter.
• Soil: Use a well-draining potting mix. A mix containing perlite, peat moss, and pine bark works well to prevent the soil from becoming waterlogged.
• Temperature and humidity: The plant prefers average room temperatures between 65–80°F (18–27°C). It enjoys moderate to high humidity, so regular misting or placing it near a humidifier can be beneficial.
• Fertilizer: During the growing season (spring and summer), feed your plant with a balanced liquid fertilizer at half-strength. Fertilizing is not necessary during the fall and winter when growth slows.
• Pruning: Trim yellowed or brown leaves as needed to keep the plant looking tidy. Pruning can also encourage bushier growth.
